The family owned and operated restaurant came to our corridor on July 6th 2019. Island Taste was started by Nickoy M., who used to cater for parties of family and friends all the time; everyone attending said he had to open his own restaurant because his food was so great. They serve the community authentic Jamaican food with lots of seasoning and spices.

Kadene, who runs the front of the restaurant, said to do this business, you really have to have a lot of dedication and love what you’re doing to continue. They love the North 5th Street corridor because it’s busy; it never sleeps. There is a great older community that supports them and everyone was so welcoming when it opened.

Being from Jamaica, they love to play soccer and cook. They love welcoming new customers in. If you’re not sure what to try, you can’t go wrong with their jerk chicken, oxtail, curry goat, patties, and plantains at 5518 N. 5th Street. Island Taste already participated in one food tour and we’re excited to have them do even more!
